Italy joins Spain, Portugal, France, Morocco, Greece, Malta, Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay in Costa Cruises’ expanded 2027 program offering diverse itineraries across Europe and South America: New Updates You Need to Know

Italy joins Spain, Portugal, France, Morocco, Greece, Malta, Brazil, Argentina, and Uruguay in Costa Cruises’ expanded 2027 program, offering travelers a unique blend of Mediterranean and South American itineraries. The Costa Serena returns to European waters after more than a decade in Asia, launching a lineup that includes Western and Eastern Mediterranean cruises with stops in iconic ports, sun-soaked islands, and historic coastal cities. Passengers can enjoy a mix of short seven-night sailings, longer two-week voyages, and repositioning cruises that provide flexible options across Southern Europe. Following its Mediterranean season, the ship will sail to South America for winter itineraries from Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro, and Montevideo, offering three- to nine-night voyages along the coasts of Brazil, Argentina, and Uruguay. Combining cultural exploration, scenic destinations, and convenient embarkation options, the 2027 schedule positions Costa Serena as a versatile vessel connecting Europe and South America, delivering immersive experiences for travelers seeking both classic Mediterranean charm and warm-weather adventures in the Southern Hemisphere.

The vessel will arrive in Europe after a trans-Atlantic repositioning voyage in late April, docking at Costa’s Palacrociere Cruise Terminal in Savona, Italy. The season begins with a 12-night Western Mediterranean cruise calling at Spain, Portugal, France, Morocco and Italy, offering travelers a blend of cultural experiences across Southern Europe and North Africa.

Following this, the Costa Serena will embark on a 14-night Eastern Mediterranean voyage from Savona. Destinations include the Greek Isles and Malta, alongside France, Spain and Italy, creating an early-season program that combines classic Mediterranean highlights with extended regional exploration.

In late May, the ship will start its main summer rotation with a series of seven-night cruises covering six destinations in seven days. Departures will be from Taranto and Catania in Italy, Piraeus in Greece and Valletta in Malta. The Costa Serena will replace the Costa Fascinosa on similar itineraries while offering regular calls to Mykonos and Argostoli. These shorter, intensive routes are designed to appeal to travelers seeking high-value Mediterranean experiences with multiple embarkation options.

The Eastern Mediterranean schedule continues through early September, after which the vessel will return to the Western Mediterranean for shorter cruises to Italy, Spain and France. This rotation allows Costa Cruises to maintain a strong presence in key markets while offering flexible holiday options before repositioning for the winter season.

Prior to returning to Europe, the Costa Serena will operate a winter season in South America for the first time in nearly 15 years. Following a world cruise departing from Tokyo, the ship will arrive in late December 2026. Sailings will operate from Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro and Montevideo, ranging from three- to nine-night itineraries along the coasts of Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay. These cruises cater to passengers seeking warmer destinations during the Northern Hemisphere winter while strengthening Costa Cruises’ footprint in the South American market.

The 2027 deployment reflects Costa Cruises’ approach to flexible fleet management, rotating vessels across continents to match seasonal demand while refreshing itineraries. The Costa Serena’s return to Europe signals confidence in Mediterranean cruising, with Savona providing a strategic homeport and strong brand recognition throughout Italy and neighboring markets.

Combining long voyages, seven-night itineraries and repositioning cruises, the Costa Serena will offer a wide variety of travel options. From Greek islands and Maltese ports to Iberian destinations and South American capitals, the schedule illustrates Costa Cruises’ balance between traditional Mediterranean experiences and global reach.

After more than a decade abroad, the Costa Serena’s redeployment to Europe marks both a homecoming and a strategic expansion. The vessel aligns cruise capacity with market demand, offering travelers iconic destinations, flexible embarkation points and opportunities for both short and extended Mediterranean holidays in 2027.
